Boulton tally marks

Postby sjbwork2 » Mon Feb 10, 2014 4:33 pm

Hi there - I'm working on researching a group of Matthew Boulton candlesticks in various mediums, including silver plate and silver. In particular there is a mark on a pair of candlesticks (appearing on both bobeches of the pair) that appears to be a tally mark, presently unidentified. Reproducing it here, with the quick question - is this a tally mark that anybody has seen before? It vaguely resembles a horseshoe, or the number "2" written curiously, or could be not quite full struck and thus not quite complete...anyhow, would be very grateful indeed if anybody recognizes it from another piece!

Many thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

It may help if you post an image of the other mark, for comparison.

Trev.
