Hi,

We've had similar markings on the forum before at least a couple of times, but I don't think anyone has come to a conclusion yet, apart from the thoughts that this is from south east Asia.

Here's a topic that contains similar marking: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=30890&p=76888

Hopefully your post will provoke further discussion.

Have always known similar boxes, found in both silver and silverplate, as Cambodian - Khmer betel/animal boxes...

Hello, asked a friend from Cambodia, she said it reads like Rioll or Wioll (not sure as the pic is a little fuzzy), which is not a word but a name, either that of the maker or the owner. She does not know what this is for but will ask her Dad. Regards, Bahner
