Hi,

I picked up this amber brooch, I think this is a Russian mark, can anyone comment? Thanks!

No it is not Russian but Soviet made. The difference is more than enormous!
ЯК3 is an abbreviation of Янтарный Комбинат Калининград 1963 i.e. Amber factory in Kaliningrad. Kaliningrad former Konigsberg former the capital of Prussia is a town on the coast of the Baltic Sea known for its amber.

Hi Qrt.S,
Thank you very much for the information! So not a silver mark at all, but a mark stating the name of the factory where the piece was made? And I'm sorry to seem so dense, but my efforts at research have produced results in Russian, which I cannot read. I'm assuming 1963 indicates date of manufacture? Correct?

Hi,
I tested the metal, it is not silver. Thought this might be helpful for someone else out there.
Happy Holidays!!!
