old WMF pattern

Postby DianaGaleM » Mon Sep 23, 2013 7:13 pm

I have a WMF 90 silver plate fork, and the exact Modell number (pattern) has me defeated.

The mark indicates it's 1880-1925,

and I suspect it may be on the early side of this range because this pattern isn't showing up in the 1906 Catalogue or in the 1925/26 Musterbook.

It's a classic "fiddle" with "wings" (shoulders, noses - Nasen) pattern:

The back is plain, and the handle very straight, turning neither up or down. The piece is 214 mm (8-3/8") long, unusually thick (4.3 mm at its thickest), and quite heavy (79.3 g).

It's most distinguishing characteristics are that the edge of the handle is beveled all around and the wings just barely protrude from the handle:

Most WMF patterns with wings have more pronounced ones.

So, at the moment, I'm stuck because it's not exactly like any of the fiddle-type patterns I have in my WMF references. Of course, that makes me all the more anxious to identifiy it. What do I have here?!
