Gold colored pearl earrings 835 V with superimposed s

I have a pair of pearl earrings with the old fashioned screw clasp. On the head of the screw clasp it is marked with 835 and a small V superimposed over a Large S. The earrings appears to be gold. These earrings were handed down from at least 2 generations, my wife's grandmother. May have come from even further back in the family.

I assume the earrings are european silver, gold plated.
