Help with an old Pipe with silver band

Postby rasputin1917 » Sun Jul 07, 2013 10:20 pm

I have an old pipe with a silver band and it has three marks on it. A star, a forward facing lion and an anchor on its side. It also says electric sil stamped below the marks. ANY help would be great.

The star immediately rules this out from being a British hallmark. "Electric sil" implies that the mount may be electroplated rather than solid silver. What does the label in the case say? Does it give some clue to the origin?

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

A clearer image of the mark may help.

The pipemaker was David P. Ehrlich of Boston. A history of the firm can be found here:

It's likely that the manufacture of the pipe mount was outsourced to another manufacturer, but the mark itself may be one peculiar to Ehrlich, but I'm just speculating.

Trev.
