Old Scottish Brooch?

Postby Wiggo1 » Sat Jul 06, 2013 5:45 pm

I found this item in a box with some other bits of silver , just haven't seen a brooch like it before, Was wondering if anyone knows the real name for this style of brooch and maybe the approx age and where it came from? (i say scottish? as the other items in the box had scottish marks but i could be wrong? it has been tested for silver.

Hi,

Believe it to be a Celtic/Scottish cloak pin/kilt pin with green onyx. Perhaps made late 19th-early 20th century.

it is a penannular, probably Scottish 20th c. this style was generally Celtic, but there were other examples from other cultures. The Roman name was fibula.
