Postby solidarity » Fri May 31, 2013 3:35 pm

Hi All,

I need hand with Irish silver badge,
of course i will like to know the maker, but more likely I'am intrested what these symbols are
hand with snakes and notes in Gealic.
I already know that top notes mean The Irish Volunteers, but i cant manage that bottom one(Town?)
I kindly ask for help if anyone know something about this item,

Looks like Dublin 1943 but I can't trace the maker or the badge symbol. Oglaigh na nEireann is used by the Irish Defence Forces as well as by republican paramilitary groups. I'm not sure the meaning of the words at the bottom, perhaps legit(imate) command. You'll probably have to enquire from a website dealing in Irish medals and badges.

Wasn't thinking straight. I guess the hand represents the red hand of Ulster so Northern Ireland not the south.

Hi,

'S & S' would appear to be specialist medallists, every example so far found has been on medals hallmarked in the 1940's:

Interesting to note that they persisted with a punch that was chipped on the left hand side.

Well found Trev.

Been thinking about the entwined snakes and I believe these are an ancient Celtic symbol representing rebirth and renewal

Hi All,

After my research I found good news:

This Badge is Doctors from Medical Corps of Defence Forces
Maker Segal & Son
His workshop in the past was located in South Dublin City near Thomas St,
and is still running by family as Trophy shop.

Informations come from Irish Medals Collector

Thanks
