Aaron Harrop Cutlers Sheffield

Postby silverfan » Wed May 08, 2013 2:13 pm

Hi all,
since a long time I own that mahagony box with cutlery with ivory handles. In the internet I didn't find any hint when looking for Aaron Harrop. Although the cutlery not consisting of silver, I hope that someone in this forum can tell me something about Aaron Harrop.

Aaron Harrop was born in Sheffield in 1848. His parents were George and Mary. His father was a carter.
The 1861 UK Census shows him aged 13 years already working as a table knife cutler.
He married Elizabeth (surname unknown) in Ecclesall Brierlow, Sheffield in 1868. They had seven children.
UK Census records for 1871-1911 list him living at various Sheffield addresses and continuing to work as a cutler. Four of his sons followed him into the trade.
He died at 29 Upper Hanover Street, Sheffield in 1919.
