Silver plate or silver? Ladle

I have a ladle stamped J hardy, Aberdeen with the initial 'A' stamped on it. Can someone tell me what the A means.

Thanks for trying to help but I have to give up on this site I have used Internet for years but not seen anything so complicated just to upload a photograph. Will take the spoon to an antique dealer to get ino, but thanks again rvresoonding

I have seen a fork with the A at right angles to the J HARDY ABDN, that was plated, but still collectable.
