Unusual variation of fiddle pattern fork

Postby PCarni » Sat Apr 06, 2013 8:04 am

I'd like your help to find out how the pattern of this fork should be described.
It looks to me like a variation of the familiar fiddle pattern but with sharp corners to the blade of the fork where there are normally smooth curves. Do you know of any other examples on the web?
It was made in Dublin around 1835. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Can you tell us who was the maker of this fork?

Hi,

The fork pictured I believe to be by Richard Whitford, Dublin 1834. I have since found two further examples of this pattern on the web:

Thomas Townsend Dublin 1809
(admin edit - see Posting Requirements )

William Law, Dublin 1812
(admin edit - see Posting Requirements )

Both are merely described as fiddle pattern.

Pete.

Thanks for posting the information, looks like a style peculiar to Ireland that I've never noticed before.
