Two celebrations today, I turn 30 and i've been collecting spoons and hallmarks for exactly one Year!
Birthday/Spoon Anniversary Present to myself below!




Pair of York Serving Spoons - 1835 partnership of James Barber and William North

Jacksons shows for this year a change in the town mark to the cross without the surround like the first mark but im wondering if the punch just wasnt pushed down enough on the examples he saw as the second spoon seems to have the surround! Obviously both would be done with the same punch?
Also If anybody has any info on this Partnership that would be greatfully received!

Do these spoons by any chance have an engraving of a 'Tudor Rose' on the handle?

Hi Rhodri,

It's unusual to find the York town mark on flatware, but Barber & North were commissioned by the Yorkshire Club for many pieces of flatware around this time, the pieces were engraved with the 'Tudor Rose', and were struck, no doubt at the request of the Yorkshire Club, with the rarely seen town mark.

The Yorkshire Club's flatware was sold at Christie's on the 8th October 1969.
