old french?? silverware - need help identifying

Postby old_norske » Wed Mar 29, 2006 11:25 am

I have some old silverware I would like to identify. There is a maker's mark and the weight in grams in the bowl of the spoons near the handle. Would like to know who the maker was, and also the style. Any help would be much appreciated.

The maker's mark looks something like this:

And here is a photo of the design:

Hello, the maker is Soc. Argental, Paris, Rue Taylor 1. It's plate and the style is Neo-Empire, around 1905. Best wishes, Bahner

Thanks Bahner. Are you sure it's silverplate? Each piece is marked with a weight in grams, and one of the large spoons, for example - is marked 84 grams, and the actual weight of the spoon on my postal scale is 90 grams, so mathematically, the percentage would be close to that of sterling.

Yes, it is silverplate, despite the coincidental weight. French silver hallmarking is rigorous, your marks conform to French silverplate.
