Postby rhodrit » Wed Mar 27, 2013 11:18 am

I have this mustard Spoon I believe by Joseph Willmore assayed in 1825

1825 is not a year for double duty marks, does anybody havew any ideas why this would occur?

Kind Regards,

Hi Rhodri,

I think it a case of an assay office marking error. Perhaps the first job on Monday morning :)

Despite the vast amounts of pieces that were hallmarked, such examples of mistakes made at the assay offices are rare indeed.

I'll add it to this thread: British Assay Office Marking Errors

Trev.
