Thanks Trev! We've read that the rampant lion almost always indicates sterling silver, yet it seems like Continental Silver made mostly silverplate items. We have a full tea set and aren't sure if it's sterling or not. Here's a photo of the set. Any more thoughts? Thanks again!

Hi Peter,

Several countries did use the 'Rampant Lion' as part of their official hallmarking system, but what you have, I'm afraid, are not hallmarks, but maker's marks, and such marks on plated wares often, traditionally, imitate hallmarks.

If the items are not marked 'Sterling' or '925' or similar, then it is highly unlikely that they will be anything more than just plated.

I hope I don't disappoint you too much.

That's what I expected. Thanks again for your help.
