Amulet box

Postby oel » Fri Mar 01, 2013 3:00 pm

Hi,

Years ago, I got this little box and to be honest I never thought much of it but on closer inspection I believe the lid of the box to be made around an amulet, depicting one of the five Pandava or acknowledged sons of Pandu, out of the Hindu Epic. My first thought the box to be made in Indonesia (Bali) or Malaysia although I believe it to be bought in Turkey. A little hole in the amulet, to put a string through, can be seen in one of the images. The dimensions: 3.7 cm x 4.8 cm, no (hall) marks only the figure 925. The amulet looks to be made out of transparent/diffused stone/glass
Who can tell me some more about this little box?

Yogya silver items made for the tourist market often depict similar shadow puppets (wayang kulit).
