Is this some kind of wine bottle holder? I cant imagine how it would be secured to the bottle though.

Nice doing and on the nail Trev. Yes it is a wine bottle holder. It is secured when you grip and press the handles. It works well, I have used it many times and every time all around the dinner table scream:"don't drop the bottle!!!". I haven't done that ....yet.. :-))))
