FOX, Charles II (Grimwade p.513-4, 748)

Postby MCB » Thu Feb 14, 2013 5:30 am

He was christened Charles Thomas, the son of Charles (Grimwade p.513, 748) and Katherine (sic), at St Bartholomew the Great in 1801.
The 1841 UK Census recorded him unmarried and living with his parents at Alfred Terrace, Islington. Although his father was still recorded as a silversmith he was shown as a “gent”; this usually infers unemployment.
He was listed as a retired silversmith in 1851 living with his widowed mother at 2 Albion Place, Islington.
No record of him has been found in the 1861 UK Census.
He was living alone at 5 Stanhope Crescent, Pancras in 1871 and remained retired.
He died at that address in 1872. The value of his estate was under £6000.
Further history of the Fox silversmith business can be found in Volume I pages 162-3 of The Directory of Gold and Silversmiths Jewellers and Allied Traders 1838-1914 by John Culme.

There are other notes in the Forum Grimwade section relating to this silversmith. They can be found by referring to the biography updates on his father, (still) entitled George Fox I.
