Simeon Goulot, Everest Leduc, Ernest Chartrand and George Brown were on Tuesday last committed to stand trial at Montreal on the charge of having burglarized the jewelry store of J. C. Vezina, 325 St. Paul St., Montreal, and stolen therefrom $800 worth of jewelry.

ANDREW MORPHY

London, Ontario


Andrew Morphy, London, Ont., one of the pioneers in the diamond business of western Ontario, and one of the last survivors of the Canadian Rebellion of 1837, died on the morning of Thursday, Dec. 29, aged 96 years. He was born in Monaghan County, Ireland in 1814, and when young came with his parents to Canada. Shortly afterwards the rebellion broke out, and he was engaged on the side of the Government. He entered into business as a jeweler in London in 1853, and had a successful career. His son, Alfred Morphy, jeweler, of London, and two other children survive him.

At the recent annual convention of the Western Ontario Retail jewelers Association, held in London, Ont., jewelers with their wives and friends to the number of about 150 were entertained at a mid-day luncheon by the following manufacturing and wholesale jewelers of London: E. H. Allport, T. H. Baker & Co., Ltd., A. E. Cooper, Charles F. Jones & Co. and A. E. Turner & Co.

A.G. WATCHER

Edmonton


Considerable damage was caused during July to the firm of A. G. Watcher, jewelers of Edmonton, when a fire broke out in the adjoining clothing store of this Albertan concern. Windows and doors of the jewelry building were broken and left open, and thousands of dollars of valuable jewelry was left exposed. Police of Edmonton were quick to respond to the alarm of fire, and arrived on the scene in time to take charge of the situation.
