GREER, JOHN.

Entered a mark as a small worker 17th September 1791, address 13 Ludgate Street. Grimwade 1337. Greer was a working cutler and became Master of the London Cutlers' Company in 1812. A notice of the sale of his stock in trade in 1821, Morning Chronicle 07th July 1821, makes no mention of any silver items but lists a very wide range of town and country made cutlery related articles. His address in 1821, 15 Ave Maria Lane, indicates his proximity to the premises of silversmiths Eames and Barnard at No 9 and William Ellerby at no 8 Ave Maria Lane.

An advertisement from 1862 that perhaps is to be identified with a continuation of the business:

Charles Greer was noted as a Cutler of Newgate Street in 1837. (Source: The City of London Poll-Book - Election 1837 - Joseph Rickerby - 1837)
