Old silver bangle bracelet, can't figure out where its from!

Postby Tipton444 » Thu Dec 20, 2012 9:09 pm

Hey guys, after looking for a while I figured it would be much easier to ask here. Someone told me it was from Scotland, but I'm not so sure about that. It's marked S & D, then with the lion, 3 heads in a triangle, and a backwards 5 or upside down 2 (interesting). If someone could help me out with where it is from exactly and what the last mark is to determine the age, that would be amazing! Also, is this a very common design for a bangle? Thanks a lot

I'm not sure why the picture came out upside down...sorry if it's harder to see.

Your bangle is by Steele & Dolphin and was assayed at Chester, date 1944

I often see these bangles, had a few myself, normally I see the ones made by Charles Horner, either with a engine turned design (like yours is) or with a bright cut engraved design.

I also have one of these bangles, the reversed 5 had me going for Ages! It is actually a T and does represent the year 1944. Unfortunately mine does not have the clasp any more, does anyone know where I might be able to get one? I've not seen this kind of fastening before, looks like it needs something like a cufflink to hold it together!
