Goldworkers List (Section VII).

Various records indicate he was born around 1787 in St Sepulchre parish, Holborn.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1818 as a gold worker from 25 Cursiter Street, Chancery Lane and applied for freedom by redemption in the Spectaclemakers Company from that address in 1819.
A christening record in 1819 for a son of George and Catherine Jane Griffiths at St Andrew, Holborn also shows Cursiter Street as their address
Christening records in 1820 for another son at the same church and for a daughter in 1822 at St Sepulchre, Holborn show their address as Old Bailey.
Further christenings records from 1824-1833 at St James, Pentonville for six more of their children show their address as Southampton Street or Terrace, Pentonville. All show George as a jeweller.
He reported he had retired at the previous address by 1851.
The 1861 UK Census recorded him at 6 Homfield Street, Islington as an insurance agent and in 1871 aged 84 years as a collector living at 140 Gray’s Inn Road.
He lodged in Southwark in 1881 where he said he was a retired goldsmith.
His death aged 97 years was recorded in the Holborn Registry in 1884.
