Wallace Bros. Sugar Bowl?

Postby Embri » Wed Mar 08, 2006 4:14 pm

This object, which I am going to call a sugar bowl, (though it might be something else!), is part of a full service set which belongs to the Cumberland Museum's collection in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. It's currently being prepared for conservation treatment, and I am seeking more information about it's date and manufacture. So far my only confirmed information is that the Wallace Bros. company are American in origin. I have found a handful of references to somewhat similar peices which might indicate that this object is silverplate holloware, dating between 1875 and 1976, based on the mark.

Object Size:
Top of handle to base - 11.9 cm
Width acoss top of handles - 17.5 cm
Lid diameter - 8.3 cm
Lid height - 5.1 cm

Image This is the hallmark, there is also a model (pattern?) number: V562.
This number is located beneath the hallmark. Both marks are on the center underside of the bowl, while the lid is unmarked.

I would very much appreciate the answers to the following, if possible:
1. Is it a sugar bowl? If not, what is it?
2. Is this object indeed silverplate holoware?
3. Have I correctly dated it to between 1875 - 1976?
4. Does anyone know what this pattern/style is called, if anything?

Thank you very much for taking the time to assist me with this identification.
