odd shell dish w/ unfamiliar hallmarks

Postby jazlan » Wed Jun 08, 2005 2:21 pm

I have come across this odd dish, with these hallmarks:

The hallmarks, in case they aren't completely visible, look like 'MP' and 'A' (off to the side), 'WH' '&' 'S' '9' and a gothic 'P'. Any ideas? All help is greatly appreciated!

Hi

From the photos, I would assume that your piece is Britannia Plate (per BP), made perhaps by William Hutton & Sons of Sheffield (major manufacturers), although I have not seem them use a straight WH & S mark before (and WH & S may be quite common initials).

Thanks

Waylander
