Postby nugs187 » Sun Aug 26, 2012 8:52 pm

My mother found this at a thrift shop about 5 years ago and we have never been able to figure out its purpose or its maker, the mark says sterling with f/j in a shield it is included in my photos but may be difficult to discern. also has a monogram of J.M.M. any info on what this object is or where it may be from is appreciated! thanks for your time.

It's a Fairchild & Johnson 'magic pencil' (retractable mechanical pencil), would have been intended as a charm for a watch chain or chatelaine.

Sorry - should have welcomed you to the forums.....and mentioned that the ad is from 1899, with the Fairchild & Johnson name in use from 1898-1919.
