Circular box 3 1/4 inches tall, made by Anton Michelsen,designed by Elisabeth 'Ibi' Trier Mørch.
Marked``TM``.
Danish architect and designer (1910-1980).
She worked for Anton Michelsen silversmiths in early fifties 20th century.
Won gold medal at trienale in Milan, Italy in 1960. Silver on exhibition in The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Thanks for sharing this with us. Do you think this container would have been sold with a particular use in mind? Cigarettes, perhaps?

I was thinking of that,too.Filtered cigarettes would not fit in.Two depressions(lid and bottom)make it even shallower.But it was made in the fifties last century.
I have seen the same box with engraved leaf decor;this one has only a snowflake engraved.
By the way,she designed Christmas spoon 1947 for A.Michelsen ``Snowflakes`` but it is not signed with ``TM``It seems she was fond of snowflakes.
It was not easy to find the meaning of ``TM`` mark;was searching initials of all Georg Jensen and A.Michelsen designers.She deserves to be remembered and her signature recorded.

Cigarettes were a lot shorter then, as compared with their modern day counterparts. The depression in the base would cause the cigarettes to be stored at differing heights, allowing a much easier extraction of the cigarette, especially when the container was full.

It is indeed deserving that this lady's mark is recorded. Thank you for this worthwhile research.
