TOSTRUP Norw.Sølje--Qstn about Mark

I just acquired an old sølje brooch marked TOSTRUP 13¼L 1868 CHRISTIANIA. Can anyone please tell me what the markings mean, specifically the 13¼L and the 1868?

13¼L was a standard used in Norway until 1892. It indictes 826/1000.

I think that your brooch is made in 1868. A little bit early for the design, but......
The brooch is not made for the folkcostumes (bunader), but as a nationalbrooch for the ladies in the towns.
J.Tostrup made a lot of them.

It's been awhile since this post & why I didn't ask more questions at the time I have no idea! LOL But I'm trying to understand how a silver content mark of 13¼L translates into 826/1000 for the silver content? Can there be other or more marks before 1892 that use fractions? And is there some kind of chart that tells what the silver content is per each number/fraction? I was thinking maybe the 13¼ mark means 86.75 (100 - 13.25) or about .867 parts per silver. Could this calculation be more accurate? Thanks!

So how does one come up with a silver content of 826/1000 for a mark of 13¼L? If I were to guess how to use this chart, I would do the following:
812.5 + (62.5 / 4) = 828.125
The number I get (828.125) is close to 826 but it's certainly not 826... What am I doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong and I believe you to be right; 13¼L equals 828,1/1000 or 82.8 % pure silver.
