Nathan & Hayes with perplexing date letter

Postby JudyM » Tue Jul 03, 2012 8:07 pm

I bought this sugar castor in London 25 years ago and was told it was silverplate. I have deciphered the hallmarks just now and this is what I THINK I found:

N&H = Nathan & Hayes
Silver of good quality?
Letter date is an "r" or a "t"? Meaning 1891 or 1893? Nothing quite like it in the letter lists.
Anchor on its side = Birmingham

I have read their company started in 1888. This is my first encounter with hallmarks and I did as much homework as I could. Can someone give me a little guidance?

Thank you so much for your help.

I failed to include a photo of the whole item, as required, but I couldn't find a way to add a photo once the post was made. Can an additional photo be added to a post?

Hi Judy,

Yes, of course, I'm sure we'll all like to see an image of the whole piece.

I looked at the photo instructions but nothing is said about adding another photo to a message already posted. So it can't be done, right?
