Mark Identification

Hello;

I am new to this board.

I am currently cataloging a silver item with the following mark:



This mark appears on the underside of a silver goblet (possibly of Central European manufacture). No hallmarks or other markings appear (apart from the engraving that lists the life and accomplishments of the owner).

Has anyone seen this before?

This looks to be the Austria mark for gilt silver alloys with less than .250 silver.

Hello, there is a slight similiarity with the mentioned Austrian mark only. Austrian marks are punched, not engraved. I believe that the engraved mark we see here might indeed point at the maker or workshop. Never seen it, though. What about the other engraving on the piece ? It might give a clue. I agree with Bahner, below is a printed example of the Austrian mark:



As can be seen, it is somewhat different from your example and appears to struck within a cartouche.
