I have 2 tablespoons (8 1/2") in Whiting's Lily pattern. I 'm giving them to my granddaughter and I'd like to fully explain all the marks.
They are marked with the Whiting Lion holding the W in a shield, and are marked "Pat. 1902", (which I understand). They are also marked "R'D 1902", which I don't understand. Also right after the 'Sterling" mark on the handle there is an "H". Is the "H" an indication of weight as was used by Gorham? I have not found any mention of weight marks used by Whting Mfg. Co. in my references. Could these have been made by after Gorham bought Whiting? Sorry I'm not able to send pictures.
