Help with small repousse piece

Postby music-surf » Sun Jun 17, 2012 12:19 pm

Hello again,

I have one other piece I was hoping that someone could help me with. It is a small repousse piece, I am not even sure what it is, maybe a salt cellar? The mark is an A and J written over one another. The only maker I could think of is A Jacobi, the Baltimore silversmith who specialized in Repousse. The estate that it came out of belonged to the owner of a Crab House in Maryland so it fits, but I haven't been able to find this mark relating to any A. Jacobi pieces. Again, any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

August Jacobi of Baltimore, Maryland has to be very high on my list for possibilities to go along with the trademark on your piece. A Jacobi was in business from 1879 to 1890 and eventually became Jacobi & Jenkins according "Rainwater."

Unfortunately, I can only agree with your suggestion and cannot confirm it.
