This silver Albert pocket watch chain [img]http://sv1.letmehost.com/sv1/13/Albert_ ... in_001.jpg was sold to me on eBay by someone from the UK. They believe that it is Hallmarked, "London, 1898", but I think that it may be from, "London, 1818".

It has the Maker's Mark stamped, "J.S" beside a star icon.

London 1898-9, maker most likely James Slater. Best wishes, Mike.

Where can information be found on James Slater, Silversmith?

Georgiansilver: Thank you very much for your reply about my London 1898 Hallmarked Albert Pocket Watch Chain. Do you know where information can be found about the silversmith, James Slater? Were there other silversmiths with the same initials during this period?

I only know from experience that James Slater was actually a prolific watch chain maker for this period but there are many silver hallmarks books available, some with makers marks in. Best wishes, Mike.
