Process to identify a coat of arms

Postby Joerg » Sat May 05, 2012 3:14 pm

Hi all

Do you know a process how I can identify a coat of arms? Is there a website for that? Unfortunately, the silver item I am working on to identify has no marks, only a coat of arms. The piece is most probably European, between 1750 and 1850, the coat of arms bears a nobility crown. So I am looking for a website which helps me further.

Thank you

Jörg

Hi Jörg,

Why not give it a try here. Some members are very knowledgeable on Crests and Coats-of-Arms.

Hi Trev

I am now in this forum for 7 years, look in it daily and reached even "contributor" status. But I was not aware there is a "Family crest" section. What a shame...

Thank you

Jörg

1. Identify the country
2. Identify the crown (not difficult); imperial, duke, count etc (there are links to crowns)
3. If high — rank nobility (dukes) there is a chance to identify it. If counts or lower - almost impossible task, unless you are lucky enough.
