Suspended pitcher

Check this one out. Anyone know if it had a very specific use? Or any special features I might not know about?

It is kinda dirty for now so I haven't found any markings on it at all.

Looks to me like an arrangement to enable a spirit burner to be put under a sauceboat in order to keep the contents warm.

Thanks. I appreciate the quick response.

Does anyone else have any more information like possible maker or quality of silver or where to look for hidden marks?

Hello,

It's a tilting gravy boat. When pouring the contents the rear lug is located into the forward cup, the boat is then able to tilt and pour with a steady action. When sufficient gravy has been issued, the boat is then returned to the position in your first photograph.

As agphile has pointed out, it would have been fitted originally with a spirit burner, but if this is missing, it should be no problem to find a suitable replacement.

If there are no marks present, assume a plated piece.

Bassett
