Dutch spoon

Hello,

I purchased this Dutch spoon which has British import marks for 1891 but the spoon is older then that i think
I do have a book for all the Dutch silver makers from 1797 onwards but the hallmarks are not in this book.
I doubt that these are pseudo hallmarks but as i can not find these marks anywhere they might be pseudo hallmarks.

Can anybody help me with this ?

Hi Dirk,

We see Dutch hallmarks and the famous pseudo marks; lion rampant for 1st standard Dutch silver being 93.4% pure silver. This mark used 1814-1953 in combination with the export key to indicate restitution 2/3 marking duty upon export of new or unused objects. I can see the date mark stamped in the stem of the spoon. Please provide us with a close up. The crowned O is an imitation of an old duty mark used by the Kingdom of Holland during 1807-1812.
The maker’s mark is a puzzle but perhaps could be solved. Please check the stem of the spoon for other marks; date letter and assay office (Minerva head between the legs of the fiddler on the stool)

There is indeed a date letter stamped.
I had a better look when you informed me of that and date letter is for 1891
The minerva head has a letter M voor Schoonhoven i believe
Makers mark must have been the rubbed one at the top of the bowl of the spoon.
I can not read this anymore.

We now have the book Netherlands responsibility marks at home which is a great help with Dutch silver.
Have to search on for similar books for French, German and Scandinavian silver.
I hope they have similar books :)
