Silver plate by Elkington, Mason & Co 1842-1864, around 150 years old;
Elkington & Company, Birmingham, from 1840. Around 1897 the use of a crown in a cartouche on British silverplate was banned. In 1963 Mappin & Webb Ltd., Elkington & Company Ltd. and Walker & Hall amalgamated to form British Silverware Ltd., but this firm only lasted to 1971.
