Help to ID mark on half-gill jigger

Postby ITAngel » Sat Feb 11, 2006 2:09 pm

I'm new to silver (so if I'm asking a dumb question, please be kind...) The mark on this half-gill/quarter-gill jigger this does not say sterling, so I am assuming it is silverplate? There are 2 marks on opposite sides of the jigger near the top rim. Thanks - Kat

Your item is certainly silver plate and was made in the reign of George the fourth (1820-30). The first mark had 'G' for George and '1V' for fourth. The other mark has the year of manafacture and a mark I do not recognise
Best wishes, Mike.
