Rattail Trefid spoon

Postby R ingo » Mon Dec 19, 2011 7:08 pm

Hello,
I know, that the marks are quite worn, but i would be glad, if someone has any ideas to this marks.

Furthermore I am interested about the regional occurrence and the absolut time of fabrication of the 2-cutted Trefid-style in Germany. I know this style only from the West and Northwest from the early 18th century.
From this 2-cutted style in Northwest Germany developed a mostly floral decorated style with much more than 2 cuts, wich was used up to 1800. Are there any other regiones than Northwest Germany, where the Trefid-style with more than 2 cuts was common?

Kind regards,
Ringo

...five years later and a little more wiser I probably found the origin of this spoon.

It seems to be made in Horneburg, Lower Saxony from one of the three known gold smithes with a family name beginning with "K" (F. E. Klein, J. B. Kohl or J. C. Krull; cf. Scheffler p. 856).
Indicative In this context is the circumstance, that persons with the two ingraved names has lived only some kilometers away from Horneburg.
