Mark ID "American" Sterling Bracelet

Postby maxbernat » Thu Dec 01, 2011 5:22 pm

I'd appreciate any information on this mark. American Sterling. Clasp has STG stamped on it. I found a Connecticut co. from the 19th century with the same name, but this is a mid 20th century object as far as I can tell. Thanks.

It looks like there might be a letter next to the word American. Could we see a clearer straight on picture of the mark? Thank you.

Hi, I'll try to get a clearer pic. The letter is a lower case letter a.

Your mark was naggingly familiar. It is very much like the American Gold Chain Company's trademark, and I'd be surprised if that is not what it turns out to be. Their mark was registered in 1964, and the owners address was 7 W. 45th St, NewYork, New York 36. The style of your bracelet fits well enough for the sixties.

Good call, Silvery. After I saw your post, I found this on google: http://www.iheartcharms.com/pages/galle ... n-co31.php. I guess it's not definitive, but it's looking good...Many thanks.

I just inherited a bracelet from my mom with this exact stamp on it. It had been in a jewelry box for a long time and had not oxidized, which makes us think it is not sterling silver, however the stamp does say "american sterling"- so is that just a brand name? Her parents gave it to her in 1968. I can't find any other marking on it. I am curious if it is sterling, white gold, or something else??? Please help

Welcome to the forum. Your bracelet may have a rhodium finish which was used on sterling to keep it from tarnishing. I believe items marked American sterling are .925 silver, and it is not just a trademark.
