Dutch Spoon

Postby joho » Sat Nov 26, 2011 12:46 pm

I have recently aquired some antique Dutch spoons all from the same family. This one is hanovarian pattern and the hallmarks appear to be from Leeuwarden. Makers mark is HD co-joined. The back of the bowl is engraved: Bakkers Gilde Lepel 1783 and a Gild crest. I would be grateful for any information such as age and maker. Also any information on Bakkers Gilde. Many thanks John

Hi Joho,

Yes, your spoon has been made in Leeuwarden, maker’s mark HD (attached or conjoined) under a Crown for; Hendrik Dauw registered 1764-1807, date letter F for 1783.
Guild Crest for the Frisian Worship Company of Bakers with the tools of the trade, perhaps a little bit comparable to the British version;
