Scandinavian Military Buckles ?

Postby buckler » Wed Oct 12, 2011 10:16 am

This pair of buckles appear to be military officers shoe buckles - the crowns are characteristic of such.
I believe they are probably Danish or Norwegian. Size is c40mm by 40 mm and by English styling the date around 1740 -1750 .

Can anyone pleasetell me
(a) if I'm anywhere near !
(b) Country , Maker and date ?

Many thanks

There are 4 buckles at Ribe museum made by Anders Jørgensen Maler, born around 1759 married 1793 dead 1829.
Called goldsmith and farmer.
28 is 13 to 14 lødigt. In Sønderjylland they used 20 22 24 26 28 and 30 for lødihed from around 1700 and 150 years onwards.

Many thanks .

lødigt is I assume a silver purity

Sønderjylland is I believe is an area of Denmark .

So Danish , late 18th or early 19th Century Danish by Anders Jørgensen Maler.

That's solved that problem
Again my thanks

Clive

pure silver is 16 parts 16/16 - danish silver is 13½ lødig
for some reason sønderjylland used the double part, they did - thats it.

I was going by English, American, and German states buckles. In the buckles of these countries military officers had crowns on their buckles, and these were never used for civil use to my knowledge

I assumed the same was true of all European countries.
