Another item from my reprint of an 1894 Pairpoint catalog.
Piece is roughly twice the size as shown in picture.

Ok I thought it was a sugar pail but now that there is no food involved, would it be an ash receptacle?

No, not an ash receptacle.

These were mostly made in the U.S.
