Silver Goblet/Chalice Hallmark ?s

Postby krazya » Thu Aug 18, 2011 2:26 pm

I am going through a deceased relatives silver collection and would like some opinions about this piece. I do not know anything about it so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Looks to me to be John Fawdery, Britannia standard, London, 1699.
Fine looking piece.

Wait for opinions from other members.

l agree with Pat it is indeed a lovely piece, and the makers mark does appear to be John Fawdery 1st (Grimwade 662)

The chasing and embossing is almost certainly 19th century. 17th century communion chalices are usually plain. A very good book to see comparisons is Charles Oman's English Church Silver.
