Belknap & Crist sterling spoon 1700's?

Postby jcmurp » Sun Jul 31, 2011 11:18 am

Not sure if this is in the right area. I have looked I think everywhere for any info about this spoon. It was in a bunch of stuff in a barn. It is marked Belknap & Crist Sterling pat'd.77. There is a S in a circle on the spoon part and a faint mark that looks like wings arched but can't see it clearly. Beautifull piece? When and where was it made and by who? Any history about this company? Comments are welcome and any info as well
Thanks

Not sure why you think this piece has anything to do with the 1700s - it's the Amaryllis pattern by Shiebler, Belknap & Crist were retailers in Newburgh, NY.

Shiebler's 1877 design patent for this pattern is #D10262, and here's an 1874 ad from Belknap & Crist:

Here is another pic of a different mark on the spoon. Sorry did not mean 1700's accidents happen that is why they are called that. Anyway here is another mark

Ahhh - a typo? Sorry, can't really make anything out of that last pic - if enough information wasn't provided, an internet search for Shiebler silver should turn up something.

Just because the information can be provided Belknap & Crist were William C Belknap and James F Crist.
