Hello,

I would be grateful for your expert opinion on the mark on this bowl which somewhat resembles early Dutch in design.

Thank you.

Hi,

To me, as a non expert the marks do definitely not look Dutch. I have seen the dumb-belt/halter before somewhere on the forum but not 100% sure about this either. To me the repose brandy bowl could be a replica in Neo rococo style perhaps made in Hanau.
Let us wait what others have to say.

Regards,

Oel

Hi Oel,

Yes that is possible, but not now. It takes time on machines that do not always cooperate. After the hollidays I will make a scan.

Zilverik

Hi fred,

Thank you so much Zilverik for your expert opinion on this mystery mark.

Is there any hint at, or do you have any ideas on the circa date of manufacture?

Kind regards,

Fred

Hi fred,

Maybe around 1890. Citroen (Valse zilvermerken in Nederland, 1977) mentioned that about 1870 the concept of Antiques for objects older than 100 years entered taxlaws. Silver exporters from Holland made a profit from the low taxs in England and the U.S. for antique silver. In Schoonhoven they made special silver for these countries with pseudomarks. The importers knew that it was not old according to the bookkeeping of a London silvershop.
