Duvalier, 18th Century Soup Ladle

Postby Granmaa » Thu Mar 17, 2011 2:03 pm

Does anyone know this maker, found on an early 18th century fiddle pattern soup ladle of North American style?

My coin silver references are pretty meager - your mark doesn't appear in my fairly recent Ensko, but it does show up in my old copies of Wyler and Kovel's, both noting nothing other than as being circa 1800; Kovel's cites three other publications. Suspect someone with better knowledge will come along.....In the meantime, if it's not too much trouble, could we please see a picture of the ladle?

Duvalier is mentioned as, "noted on silver", in the 1911 American Church Silver of the 17th and 18 Centuries, published for an exhibit at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts:

Thank you Cheryl. Tantalising.
