The Inland Revenue Board of Stamps Apprentice Books transcript at SOG 25/6 of 1766 gives a John Barrow apprenticed to William Vincent, citizen and Goldsmith . A William Vincent is in PR1773 as a plate worker in St Annes . The date of 1766 may be either the start or the end of the apprenticeship.
Heal records a John Barrow, Goldsmith of Tottenham Court Road in 1773. No other Barrows in the main body of Grimwade, so this may be an earlier address.

Only recorded mark is as bucklemaker, 52, New Compton Street in 1782, moving to 8, Bedford Street by September 1783.

Described as Buckle Maker , Bedford [ ?Street ? ] when sworn in to a coroners inquest in 1785
Voted for Townshend in the 1788 Westminster Election, as John Barrow , Silversmith ,Bedford Street, St Martin in the Fields

Died in 1789 - Will proved 28th February 1789 at PCC.
Left virtually everything in trust for his son, his wife and mother being executice
They entered a joint Bucklemaker mark of Elizabeth Barrow & Jane Williams on 6th March 1789 and their marks has been seen up to 1792/1793. The son Peter Dennis Barrow did not register a mark so presumeably never became a partner or a silversmith.

The marks below, on a pair of shoe buckles of good quality , with an incuse duty mark , are believed to be his .
