Inland Revenue Board of Stamps transcript 26/201 of 1769 records the apprenticeship of a Robert Hilton to Samuel Whitford of St Martin le Grande Silversmith. As Samuel Whiford was a bucklemaker it is little surprise to see Robert Hilton registering a mark as such in 1777.
