London Salt Cellars. rubbed marks help

Postby eleazar » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:23 pm

Hi, I purchased these salt cellars but the marks are very rubbed, I´ve guessed so far they are from london, prior 1784 (no duty mark visible), I would appreciate any idea of the date and maker!
Thankss
(sorry about the images but I was no able to take them without the camara reflection)

That's pretty worn, but I can narrow down the date for you a bit.
Because of the shape of the cartouche of the leopard's head, the salt cellar must have been made in London between 1740 and 1755.

I have a pair of salts of identical design, London 1736 & 1737, maker Edward Wood.
