Postby joho » Sun Jan 02, 2011 8:44 am

Hi - can anyone identify the marks on this 2 handled bowl. I have thought they might be Spanish.

Thanks John

Made by José Ignacio Vargas Machuca from Madrid, in XVIII to XIX century.

Hello John

First I’ve a wish: Please add in yours future questions the dimensions of the item — maybe also the weight in gram too.

It seems that yours smokers item (charcoal bowl, with handle to serve the neighbour too) is made by José Ignacio Vargas Machuca from Madrid, around the final phase of XVIII to XIX century — maybe influenced by the style realized from »La Real Escuela de PlateríaMartínezde Madrid«.

Kind regards silverport

Hi Silverport - many thanks again for your help. The silver bowl is rectangular in shape and measures 100mm x 65mm, from handle to handle it is 240mm long, and weighs 84 grams, including wooden handles. I will remember to put the dimensions next time!!

Can you tell me if the other stamp is a Madrid hallmark?

Kind regards
John
